Nikki Franklin

Choral direction

Tzadik label artist and composer, Nikki Franklin writes music that spawns from her love of the large ensemble, the outsider, and the beautiful absurdities in everyday life.

Her creative partnership with trumpet player and composer, Sam Eastmond led to the birth of the SPiKE Orchestra, into which Eastmond and Franklin pour their collaborative spirits. ‘Cerberus’, Volume 26 of the ‘Masada Book of Angels’ was released in November 2016, to high critical acclaim. New projects with John Zorn in the UK and USA are currently underway.
Nikki has been involved in many British choirs, Manager of The London Vocal Project from 2013-2016, and currently running ‘Shout Chorus’, her funk and soul choir in Sussex. She has performed in many prestigious venues including Ronnie Scotts, The Royal Festival Hall and The Barbican.
Nikki is passionate about composition & arranging, constantly working on new repertoire across diverse settings and styles. She is proud to have composed a new work for Albert Hera ‘Listen’, on his latest album, ‘Solos’.
Nikki is currently undertaking a PhD in Jazz composition at the University of York.
